My Christmas and Holiday Art is now available on my website and in my Etsy store. I admit, I have spent more time photographing and painting than preparing for this season that honestly has snuck up on me but I did manage to get one of my paintings completed for the start of the season. The kissing goldens is new this year. I drew this last year at the end of the season and knew I wanted to complete it for Christmas 2018. The kissing goldens and all my season artwork is available for purchase here and also on my Etsy Store. Thank you for supporting a local artist!
I am finally painting again. I almost forgot how but feels good to spend time with my watercolors again. I have been busy with my flower photography and painting got away from me. I’ve come to discover that I am not one that does well when staying with any other medium at a time except watercolors. This includes photography. I loved pastels and am still going to explore them partially but something about watercolors provides me with such a different experience that I just love. This girl started in my journal and took a life all her own and I love when that happens. Fall and winter is my absolute favorite time of the year and our fall foliage is late this year but finally happening and she and the one who painted her is so inspired by this, and all of the beauty that surrounds it. She was created with Schminke and Jane Davenports peerless watercolors.
I recently started a class for Oil and Soft Pastels. I have never had a interest in this medium but loved the artist and what and how she uses them. When she offered a class, I signed up without hesitation. The class and the creating I have done since then has really surprised me. Not only am I learning so much, I am just astonished that a medium that is so awkward, messy and hard to work with can create such vivid, individual and expressive creations. I am so challenged and inspired, loving and hating all at the same time. This has unexpectedly sent me in a new direction and I’m excited to learn and explore something new! I attempted a face and also a landscape on my own with this medium and here are the results and my first soft pastel paintings! #trysomethingnewstayinspired
Since I have started to art journal, I am surprised to to go back to my previous art work and find that these were created at the same time but a year apart. It’s how I feel, I’m longing for Fall. From left to right first one is 8/16, second is 8/17, third is 7/27.
When I started painting, a lot of the paintings I were attracted too, were in groups that were related to art journaling. I never got it and I didn’t understand it. At that time, how can you spend so much time on art that gets hidden or that the world doesn’t see. I couldn’t wrap my head around it but loved the art and the artists creating it. My classes began. As I started painting something started happening, something changed inside me. More and more emotions were coming out that I didn’t know were even present. Suddenly I totally understand why art journaling made so many people happy and why so many people were doing it. It wasn’t for anyone else, it’s for the artist. I am so grateful to now know this because I fought it for a long time because (or so I thought) because I always had better things to do. Now it’s one of the most important things I do because I know how much it helps me, and how much I need it.
There are so many things I have learned in the past several years that I could write a book, but one thing is for sure, what I am painting not only represents these changes of where I have come from, it also shows where I am striving to go.
Completed another portrait in my art journal a few days ago. I’ve really been working on my drawing, proportions and also my watercolor painting of faces and that was this girls only purpose. The techniques I learned for this girl are new for me and challenging but closer to what I have been chasing and where I want to go . Watercolors are so challenging but so amazing to me. You can do so many different things and different techniques and I am enjoying learning and painting and discovering what I can do with them. I have already drawn a few more since learning these new skills and will continue to paint and stay here. I feel comfortable here and going to stay here awhile.
My current work in progress. I have been learning new techniques and can’t seem to let go of that at the moment. That is what is going into my current work. There are quite a few drawings not portrait related that I want to paint but am stuck on this at the moment. It’s very rewarding to see myself get closer to what I am after. I wish I could just let certain things go and not make it so hard but am also learning that this quest and desire to reach for things makes me grow. This is all watercolor at the moment and I have been challenging myself to do more of this recently.
